Red Herring today published this story, subtitled “It’s one small step for politics as former Virginia Governor Mark Warner hits the virtual world of Second Life.”
Yes, like it or not, politics will make it into our games, too.
Mr. Warner has been mentioned as one of the top contenders for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination, and the demonstration is certainly trendsetting.
Just so you know he’s not a complete technology suckup, I should mention that Governor Warner is also one of the cofounders of Nextel.
The article talks a bit about the history of internet technology in politics, as well about where it’s likely to go. Some recent history:
it’s hard to forget the “Netroots” triumph of Ned Lamont, whose supporters used blogs and YouTube to help propel the political newbie past incumbent Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman in the state’s Democratic primary.
Yeah, YouTube again. 😀
